Release 18/1/2009TRYING WEEKEND FOR HEPBURN
Timaru driver John Hepburn was a disappointed man at the conclusion of Round 5 of the BNT V8s Championship at Teretonga Park in Invercargill this weekend. The South Canterbury driver struggled with poor handling in the John Hepburn Racing Commodore throughout the weekend and then had to retire from two of the three races with fuel pump failures. "Gutted," was his brutal assessment of the situation as he summed up the round. The former motorcycle and Super Truck Champion was disappointed with the handling of the car throughout qualifying and found it no better in the rain when the first race was held on Saturday evening. However despite the ill handling car he made it through to sixteenth place in the difficult conditions. On Sunday morning, after starting from the pitlane due to a tyre change as the weather threatened, John's race only lasted a few laps before the fuel pump problem ended his race. In the third and final race Hepburn started from pole position but the day was over after only one lap when the fuel pump problem resurfaced. Making the result even more disappointing for Hepburn was the fact that Teretonga is a circuit he loves. The southern track is a fast flowing one but as John said, "it was late in the weekend before we could even take the loop in third gear." The next round of the 2008/2009 BNT V8s Championship takes place at Manfeild Park in Feilding from 27 February to 1 March. John Hepburn's campaign in the BNT V8s Championship is supported by Auto Align, Timaru Signs & Graphix, Blastcraft, Petrie Mayman Clark, Robinsons Auto Dismantlers, Drummond & Etheridge, Timaru Metal Recyclers, Ashley Electronics, Paul Smith Earthmoving and Crash Repairs.
