John Hepburn

43 year old John from Timaru has fashioned an outstanding motorsport record , one that is virtually unparalleled in New Zealand.
After a glittering career in motorcycle racing , where his name became synonymous with success , he proved his ability and versatility in 2004 when he made his first foray into four wheel competition in a class as far removed from motorcycles as possible-the New Zealand Super Truck Championship.
He became the Class B Champion in his first year and since then has added two Class A plus the overall New Zealand Super Truck Championship title to his CV.
In 2006/2007season John made his circuit debut in cars and again he was immediately competitive , finishing third in the Kumho Sport Saloon Series at his first attempt.
Already in 2008 John has won his class in the South Island Endurance Series after winning all three rounds. He has also had a taste of New Zealand V8s , the premier class of New Zealand motorsport and is preparing to embark on his first full season in the category.
John's New Zealand V8s Championship aspirations are based on a five year plan and in year one he has set the realistic goal of reaching the top fifteen overall in the ultra-comprtitive class with some top ten race results along the way.
At home on 2 or 4 wheels.
As mention John had a very successful motorcycle road racing career which saw him compete in New Zealand , Australia and the famous Isle of Man .Whether on a 250cc production bike or 1000cc Superbike he was right at home.
In 1992 John won the Golden Handlebar Championship , which took in all motorcycle disciplines -trials, speedway, moto-cross and road racing.
Competed for over one weekend , John became the best all round NZ motorcycle racer for that year.
John's haul of 2 Silver and 4 Bronze replica trophies at the 1999 Isle of Man TT was a world record for any rider.
In 2000 John set the New Zealand outright land speed record , set near Edendale in Southland at 191.08mph on a Suzuki Hayabusa 1300. The record still stands today.
